Essential Equipment
- A clean kettle
- A ceramic or porcelain mug (avoid plastic or metal)
- High-quality tea bag (we recommend House of Kolze - obviously)
- Fresh, cold water
- Timer (phone works perfectly)
- Spoon for removing the tea bag
Our Perfect Brewing Method
Step 1: Water Preparation
Start with fresh, cold water from the tap or water filter. Never re-boil old water, as this reduces oxygen content and affects taste. For black tea, bring water to a full boil (100°C/212°F). For green or white tea, let it cool to 80°C/176°F after boiling.
Step 2: Mug Preparation
Warm your mug by filling it with hot water and discarding it. This prevents the brewing temperature from dropping too quickly when you make your tea.
Step 3: The Brewing Process
1. Place tea bag in warmed mug
2. Pour water directly over the bag
3. Time your brew precisely:
- For black tea: 2-4 minutes
Step 4: Finishing Touches
Remove the tea bag with a spoon, never squeeze it (this releases bitter tannins). Add (ideally) room temperature milk after brewing for black tea, if desired.
Pro Tips for Tea Excellence
- Store tea bags in an airtight container away from strong odours
- One tea bag per 250ml of water is ideal
- Never judge brewing time by color alone
- Adding milk? Use whole milk at room temperature
- Clean your kettle regularly to remove limescale
Remember: The perfect cup of tea is personal. Use this guide as a starting point and adjust to your taste preferences.
